FAREWELL TO PIANISSIMA - piano means quiet…

This year unfortunately does not spare us bad news, hiting us with great force and causing immense pain. On 19 October we lost Pianissima (Gazal Al Shaqab – Pianosa/ Eukaliptus). An exceptional mare, bred in Janów, which became a legend already during her lifetime.

Pianissima was foaled in January 2003 as the first foal of Pianosa and the Qatari stallion Gazal Al Shaqab. From the first moments of her life the unmatched beauty of her little head was absolutely fascinating and sowed a seed of hope for future success in the show ring.

Pianissima’s dam, also bay Pianosa, was the daughter of Pinia and a granddaughter of the unforgettable Pilarka. Thanks to her absolute, all-around perfection Pilarka was called the „fairy tale Arabian”. She unquestionably dominated the 1980-ties, always standing on the highest podium and setting an ideal standard of an Arabian horse. Pianissma’s sire, the bay stallion Gazal Al Shaqab, was leased from Qatar by the Janów Podlaski in 2002. The phenomenal qualities of Gazal Al Shaqab were confirmed by a long list of victories.

2004 was the first year of Pianissima’s starts and her first success. At the end of May the XIV Spring Pure Bred Arabian Youth Show was organized, along with a Polish Junior Stallions Championship. In Białka Pianissima delighted spectators with her ideal head profile which distinguished her from her rivals. She confirmed this outstanding beauty by winning the title of Białka Junior Mares Champion and Best Horse in Show. Her next success came at the I Pure Bred Arabian Championship in Falbork. Despite her small experience Pianissima presented herself like a top class lady. That show certainly belonged to her.

In the rainy August of 2004 Janów Podlaski organized the XXVI National Pure Bred Arabian Show. Proud Pianissima patiently awaited her turn. The bad weather was not an issue for Janów’s beauty. Due to her innate grace and charisma the rain only made her all the more charming. This was a picture that could only get the highest scores. Pianissma won the highest marks of the show (93.33 points) including six „20s”, 3x20 for type and 3x20 for head and neck, winning the title of Polish Junior Mares Champion, an additional prize for the Best Mare in Show and the trophy for the Best Horse in Show.
The Janów Stud was already aware of the diamond it held in its hands. Pianissima was called the „great little treasure”. The time came for her to perform on the international arena. Pianissima’s debut among the crème de la crème of world Arabians took place on 25 – 26 September 2004 during the XX Nations Cup in Aachen. Despite strong competition Pianissima went straight to the top and unanimously won the title of Junior Mares Champion.

During the European Championship in Moorsele Pianissima was the undisputed favourite. It seemed that by her elegance and unblemished beauty the Janów mare intimidated her rivals. The result was as expected, Pianissma again won a unanimous victory and title of European Junior Mares Champion.

More wonderful news came from France in December 2004. Thanks to Pianissima the dream of the Janów crew came true and she triumphed as the World Junior Mares Champion! Thus, being the Nations Cup Champion, European and World Champion she won the title of “Thrice Crowned”!

In September 2005 went to the USA where she fulfilled the American dream of nearly every breeder. In 2006, in Louisville, Kentucky, the 40th US National Championship was held at the Kentucky Fair & Exposition Center. About 2000 pure bred, half-bred and Anglo-Arabians competed. Amongst an ovation Pianissma won the title of Junior Mares Champion.

2008 brought more success and titles. Pianissima became the Senior Mares Champion of the Al Khalediah Arabian Horse Festival. In August the same year during the XXX National Pure Bred Arabian Show in Janów she did not disappoint her fans again. To the long list of her trophies she added the title of Senior Mares Champion.

During the most prestigious show of the season, the Nations Cup in Aachen, Pnianissima practically knocked out all her rivals. She became the Senior Mares Champion and won the hearts of thousands of Arabian horse lovers. Not more than a month after this victory the beauty of Janów went even further. During the European Championship in Moorsele Pianissima unanimously became the Seninor Mares Champion and won the prize of Highest Scoring Horse in Show!

Then came December and with it the Salon du Cheval in Paris, with the Pure Bred Arabian World Championship. In an ovation, among photographers and reporters, the Polish national anthem resounded during the Sunday finals. None other than Pianissma was the authoress of this spectacle. As anticipated, she once again unanimously became the World Senior Mares Champion. Pianissma, winner of the Nations Cup, European and World Champion, is Thrice Crowned for the second time!

In 2012 thanks to Panissima the Polish anthem also resounded in Dubai, where she won the title of Senior Mares Champion. She also gave us unforgettable moments in December 2013 during the World Championship in Paris, where she was awarded the title of Platinum World Champion Mare!

Pianissima – a legendary horse, the „great little treasure”, Penny – a nickname by which she was known to her fans in the US. The news about her sudden departure, which appeared on the official webite of the Janów Podlaski Stud, was a great blow to all horse lovers.

Cruel fate left us with emptiness and silence. They say in the autumn silence you can hear the delicate sound of falling leaves; piano means quiet
